Inversions

This tutorial covers 3 inversions (Vertical Loop, Corkscrew, & Immelmann Loop), and comes in 3 parts: Shaping, Mechanism and Finishing Touches. We recommend to start off with you build the inversions to the same dimensions as we have, and then you customise it for your rides.

For this tutorial we recommend you use our Invisible Rails Creator Pack, available here.

Step 1: Shaping

Vertical Loop:

Start off by building an 'inverted teardrop' shape, then expand it out horizontally so that there is a one-block gap between the end and the start.

Immelmann Loop:

To start off with, build the same 'inverted teardrop' shape as for a vertical loop, but then remove the second half of it and replace it with a more horizontally shifted shape.

Corkscrew:

Start off by marking out the shape of the corkscrew from overhead, ensuring that it has a well-curved shape. Then put in a third dimension by building it up to form the corkscrew, ensuring that the highest point is in the centre.

Trial and error is vital to get the shaping accurate.

Step 2: Mechanism

Put a 8-tick (2 repeaters) delay after a piece of detector rail on the section of track leading up to a lift hill, then a command block. In that command block put the following: "/setblock [X-Coordinate] [Y-Coordinate] [Z-Coordinate] slime"

X-Coordinate, Y-Coordinate, and Z-Coordinate are the coordinates of the block indicated in the image on the left.

Then put a 4-tick (1 repeater) delay, and another command block. In it put "/setblock [X-Coordinate] [Y-Coordinate - 1] [Z-Coordinate] piston 1".

Add in another 4-tick delay after that command block and then put down another command block, with the following in it: "/setblock [X-Coordinate] [Y-Coordinate - 2] [Z-Coordinate] redstone_block"

Next, put a 12-tick (3 repeater) delay, with a command block after it with the following command inside it: "/fill [X-Coordinate] [Y-Coordinate - 2] [Z-Coordinate] [X-Coordinate] [Y-Coordinate + 1] [Z-Coordinate] air"

Then put a 4-tick delay, with the following command after it: "/setblock [X-Coordinate] [Y-Coordinate] [Z-Coordinate] concrete"

This same mechanism can be applied to immelmann loops, and a corkscrew does not require a mechanism.

Step 3: Finishing Touches

Apply the Invisible Rails Creator Pack in order to hide the rail in the inversion. We also recommend building terrain around the bottom of the lift hill in order to hide the mechanism.

Congratulations!

You have now successfully made three different inversions! Now that you know the basics, feel free to customise them to fit your own rides!
